Gum Contouring

Some people have teeth that look too short or uneven due to the relationship between their teeth, gums and lips. When such a balance is lost it creates what is known as a "gummy" smile. In some cases genetics play a role in causing gum tissue to cover too much of the tooth which normally is visible.

Another type of gummy smile appearance can be caused by an upper lip that has an unusual attachment relationship. This can cause the lip to move too far up when smiling thereby showing excess gum tissue.

Dr. Allen can correct such issues and perform a procedure called gum contouring to remove the excess gum tissue and expose more of the crown of the tooth. Your gum line is carefully sculpted to create just the right proportion between gum tissue and tooth surface, resulting in a more natural appearance and aesthetically pleasing smile.
